BIO
In 1983 Geoffrey Cobb visited the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and knew right away that variety was his calling. He returned home to Michigan and became involved in the festival there. He learned to juggle and be comfortable in front of an audience, and then in 1986 it was off to Ringling Bros, Barnum & Bailey Clown College. After Clown College, Geoffrey performed as a clown with the Clyde Beatty & Cole Bros. Circus for the 1987&1988 seasons, where he meet Mike Schneider, who taught him to swallow swords and perform his “block head” routine. Disillusioned with the circus life, 1989 saw Geoffrey back in Michigan working a “real job” in the “real world”, while putting together his sword swallowing show.
Since 1991 Geoffrey has performed annually at over a dozen different Renaissance Festivals and Fairs across North America, including a 14-year run at the Arizona Renaissance Festival.
In 1996 Geoffrey headed north to Canada to perform at Street Performer and Busking Festivals, this proved to be a pivotal moment in the development of the show. As this is when Geoffrey stopped trying to be a “dashing and dangerous” type of character, and settled into his own character, a very approachable, reluctant every man. This “clown” character helped to make the show easier to watch and broadened its appeal.
1997 through 2001 saw Geoffrey touring a full “season” of five renaissance festivals a year. Starting each year at the Arizona festival in February and finishing 9 months later in North Carolina.
In late 2004 Geoffrey decided that it was time to move the show from renaissance festival to other venues, and so in 2005 Geoffrey began to perform on cruise ships and traveled to Australia for a successful tour of clubs and festivals.
What's next?...
2008 will see Geoffrey on a Busking tour of Europe.
